Affordable Entertainment, Old Money Book, and How to Rule the World

You may have noticed that I haven't been sending out new issues every single week (or you may not have noticed lol). My reason for doing so, if you're interested, is I felt I couldn't find enough high quality interesting things to send every week. I've decided to only send out a new issue of You vs You when I've collected at minimum three things I'm really fired up about. I hope this is a considerate decision you, reader, will appreciate.

3 Cool Things

100 Hours of In-person Entertainment for $50

Finding cheap, fun ways to spend time with friends is hard. Modern video games have pretty good value – think hours to cost vs something like a ticket to a movie. Still, modern consoles are super expensive, the games are expensive, not to mention they are like 3000 gigabytes and have a new, giant update every four days. It's a frustrating experience. I'm unsure on the science of this, but I'm also pretty sure Fortnite is actually distilled synthetic cocaine.

The solution? Spend $50 to buy a used Wii and a 32 gigabyte SD card then jailbreak it to get every game ever made as demonstrated in this youtube tutorial. I know jailbreaking sounds a bit intimidating, but trust me it is not that difficult and worth it. After you finish feeling like a world class hacker tapping into the NSA and breaking through the matrix, lug that thing into a backpack and find some friends to play it with. (If you have any trouble with the setup, just contact me.)

Living Better – Secrets of America's Upper Class
The Old Money Book by Byron Tully

🛑 STOP 🛑 If you only read one thing I've ever recommended, read this. This book is not about money. This book is not about spending less. This book is not about appalling old money snobbery. This book is about values. And in my opinion, these values are exactly what this newsletter is about – how to live well in all aspects of life. Reading this book was shocking for me because it is more or less how I already live (minus the money lol). I think it is spot on. It's also a really short book.

As a bonus, if you are really interested in the apparel chapter from the above book, the author old wrote, Old Money Style, which goes into more detail.

How the World of Tech Works
How to Rule the World: An Education in Power at Stanford University by Theo Baker

As a techy person, I found this book fascinating. The hidden world of the prestigious college is so important to your career that it is almost soul crushing for those of us who didn't make it or didn't know. I encourage you to follow the article/book up with, This is Water, if you find yourself a bit distraught.
